The lighthouse on St Mary’s Island is a popular photography subject. This workshop will start at Old Hartley Bay where there is a more unusual view of the lighthouse. From there we’ll walk the coastal path to Collywell bay and Charlie’s Garden, Northumberland’s one and only sea stack. After this we’ll continue to Seaton Sluice harbour, looking out for the unusual sculptures by local artist Tom Newstead. To round the workshop off, we’ll follow the burn up into Holywell Dene and continue from there to our original starting point.

Useful information

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels of experience and ability, from absolute beginners to those with more experience. The group size is limited to eight to allow Jason and David to devote ample time throughout the day to every participant.

Bring with you the camera equipment (camera, lenses and filters) you already own and would normally take out for the day. A tripod will be useful, but don’t worry if you don’t have one: it's not essential and we may be able to lend you one for the workshop.

It's likely to be on the chilly side, despite the onset of spring. Be sure to wear warm and windproof clothing, and bring waterproofs just in case. You will also need sturdy and comfortable and waterproof walking shoes or wellies. There will be a reasonable amount of walking required during the day. Although the coastline near Whitley Bay is relatively flat, a reasonable degree of fitness and mobility is recommended.
